The Wellington colony is based upon a group of escapees formed of about ten adult animals (from the north of France) in around 1981. The enclosure that contained the lizards was situated in a glass-house adjacent to a detached bungalow on the bypass. There is a 8ft flint wall along part of the property, and lizards have been found both on this wall, and in the greenhouses.

Both the small size of this colony, and the urban habitat ensure that the range is limited and does not overlap with native species. The ecological impact is assessed as negligable.

The colony is based on an old flint boundary wall and in greenhouses.
